Course Description
Making Implicit Bias Explicit is a 6-hour course consisting of six modules designed to be completed at your own pace over the course of six weeks. This course is ideal for existing leaders, emerging leaders, and all human resource professionals. The aim of this course is to increase one’s awareness of unconscious bias. We can act with bias based on our implicit associations despite them being inconsistent with our stated beliefs and values. Understanding implicit bias provides a lens to explore the causes of gender, racial, and other social disparities in the absence of explicit intent to discriminate or cause harm. Learning Objectives & Outcomes Participants will: Learn the definition of implicit bias, how it operates, and where it comes from Understand the real-world impact of implicit biases Learn different forms of unconscious bias and how they can function as a barrier to success and values alignment Recognize unconscious bias in oneself and others, and take steps to increase self-awareness Develop self-discipline and a commitment to continuous learning around identifying personal bias (implicit or explicit) Learn strategies to effectively identify implicit bias and utilize frameworks for change in order to overcome institutional biases
